Visible Measures Awarded Patent on Distributed Application Usage Measurement

BOSTON, Sept. 11 -- Visible Measures, a leading independent third-party measurement firm for Internet video publishers and advertisers, was recently issued its first United States patent covering a service architecture for distributed capture and aggregation of dynamic application usage information on the Internet. U.S. Patent No. 7,356,590, based on an application filed in 2006, relates to the collection of local and remote usage data for rich Internet applications (RIAs), where a usage monitoring application programming interface (API) is integrated into the RIA during application development or deployment.

Using this unique approach, various types of usage data, such as application feature execution data, application failure data, and other fault data, can be collected and managed from a web-based service provider platform. Thus, for example, an application developer can design and develop an application and use the patented platform to monitor for which features were used, when those features were used, in what order, by whom, on what platform, and with what end-user environment. The platform enables these measurements to be made securely, reliably, and without impairing application performance.
