Operations Engineer

You will be a core part of our engineering team to help design, build, and maintain systems necessary to continue VMC’s explosive growth. This will be range from building deploy scripts to identifying and removing scaling bottlenecks. You communicate effectively and possess the individual leadership and accountability to “step up” and deliver high quality results in a fast paced environment. We are looking for an exceptional Linux Systems & Networking Engineer to install, operate, monitor, and support the systems and networking backbone of our media metrics and ad serving infrastructure. A candidate with development experience is preferred as the ability to support, deploy and monitor our enterprise applications is required.

You will be responsible for helping plan for and implement our system growth, responding to issues, troubleshooting traffic anomalies, maintaining high-volume / high availability hosted services, and building new automation infrastructure. To achieve these goals, you will need a deep understanding of networks, operating systems, multi-tiered Internet services and an ability to proactively address and resolve issues efficiently and effectively. 

• • 4+ years’ experience in Unix or Linux Systems Administration, as well as web site/service support
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting in a high-volume, critical production service environment
  • Experience implementing scalable network, database, and storage architectures
  • Managing vendor relationships
  • Team player – experience in an early-stage high-growth environment
  • Hands-on implemantation and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong understanding of networking: isolating, diagnosing, and resolving issues with service delivery components and network devices (servers, routers, switches, bridges, firewalls, hardware load balancers); identifying the potential cause of service issues using server-resident tools (tcpdump, ping, traceroute, etc.); defending against common network security exploits; understanding how to troubleshoot issues at the packet level
  • Skilled in leading projects, especially in deploying live end-user systems
  • Experience in MySQL database administration and clustering
  • Familiarity with build and deployment technologies
  • Programming and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in a Scrum development environment is a plus
  • Curious and willingness to learn in a rapidly growing environment
