With chart juggernauts New Moon and 2012 now out of the rankings, James Cameron's Avatar was able to claim first place in the Top 10 Online Film Trailer Chart this week. Two weeks from its holiday season release, the sci-fi action flick grew 57% to 1.7 million views.

Ninja Assassin, Old Dogs and The Road hit theaters during the Thanksgiving break, each  displaying significant audience interest. In the week after their release, the films have continued to draw attention, growing 121%, 145%, and 129%, respectively. This further demonstrates that online video viewing behavior surges the week after release.

James Cameron's upcoming film, Avatar, experienced a dramatic spike in views this week, growing 418% to reach 2.5+ million views. Still six weeks from release, the majority of the growth comes from a new trailer launched by 20th Century Fox. Despite this growth, the highly anticipated Avatar fell short of surpassing Sony's apocalyptic 2012 and Summit's vampire hit New Moon, which took an uncharacteristic dive this week.

Releasing This Weekend

Disney's A Christmas Carol, featuring the voice of Jim Carrey, hits theaters this weekend with a 91% surge in views, up to 251,000+ views, enough for fifth place. Horror flick The Fourth Kind finishes its run with 192,000+ views, taking seventh place. Lastly, Overture Films' comedy The Men Who Stare At Goats, starring George Clooney, put up 133,000+ views this week, enough to squeeze back on the chart at tenth place.

New this Week

Warner Bros.' heart-warming drama The Blind Side New slides into eighth place this week. Two weeks from release, the film starring Sandra Bullock attracted 180,000+ views.

Ten weeks from its offical release, James Cameron's Avatar debuts on the Top 10 Online Film Trailers Chart at fifth place. Cameron, the director of Titanic, Aliens, and Terminator, conceived Avatar fourteen years ago but was only able to realize the film with today's technology. This is Cameron's first work to hit the silverscreen since Titanic in 1997. And, as securing a position on the Chart tens weeks from its release indicates, Cameron fans have been ancitipating the action fantasy film's release.

Biggest Bump

Sony's 2012 surged this week, surpassing all other films in growth, growing nearly 160%. Despite the significant increase, the end-of-days film remains in second place behind New Moon, which collected over 11 million views this week. The other vampire film on the Chart, The Vampire's Assistant, increased 102%, moving from tenth to seventh place.

Releasing This Weekend

Universal's Couple's Retreat releases this weekend with 210,000+ views. Starring Vince Vaughn, the romantic comedy takes ninth place.
