The Visible Measures Blog
Rick Perry's Strong campaign is the most viral presidential ad of the year. The campaign has exploded across the Web, generating over 13 million views in little more than a week. Strong has lapped all other presidential ad campaigns a few times, and has over 10 million views than its closest competitor. It's inspired over 250 spoofs and parodies, which have driven over half of the campaign's total views. The most-watched spoof is by Andy Cobb, grabbing over 1.6 million views, which tops the most-watched campaigns of the year for both Obama and Ron Paul. Strong has almost as many views as all the other 2011 viral presidential campaigns combined.
Nearly every political campaign season has an ad that stands out against the field. In 2010, it was Scott Brown's truck. In 2008, it was Hillary Clinton's 3:00 AM call. For 2012, so far at least, it's Herman Cain's Now Is the Time for Action, also known as his smoking ad.
