In July we noted that the top 10 series received more views than in any previous month, and this month the total has gone up once again. In August, the shows made it up to 248.5 million viewers. Though The Annoying Orange came out on top again, the shooting star here was Auto-Tune the News, whose remix of the “bed intruder” viral video launched the series from nowhere (last month, at least) to second place.

In June, two of the biggest web series — Fred and The Annoying Orange — exchanged crossover episodes, boosting views for one significantly but not making much of a dent for the other. In a big upset, Happy Tree Friends has knocked Fred from the number one spot in the Top 10 Webisodes Chart. Fred had dominated the first two editions of the chart, putting up staggering numbers that seemed hard to beat. However, Happy Tree Friends chalked up over 19.8 million views in October to Fred's 15.9+ million, demonstrating not only that the webisode category is full of surprises, but that a large audience exists for mature cartoon content online.

Fred didn't just drop from first place, however. Deca TV challenger Smosh put up 16.4 million views, pushing the teen phenom farther down the chart to third place. With Smosh releasing five new assets in October compared to Fred's two, there seems to be a correlation between frequency of release and viewership. What do you think?
