Joey Quits and Goes Viral
Who hasn’t wanted to stick it to their boss and quit with a brass band in a fantastic resignation? Well, Joey DeFrancesco of Providence, Rhode Island didn't just fantasize about it. He did it, recorded it, and uploaded it to YouTube for the entire world to see.
Exactly one week after Joey uploaded the video, Joey Quits has grabbed more than 1.4 million views and more than 3,000 comments. Copies and derivatives thus far have been light, but we're likely to see more soon. Joey has already been interviewed by The Huffington Post and featured on BuzzFeed.
But how does Joey Quits stack up to other videos standing up to the man? To compare, we took a look at Dave Carroll’s famous backlash to United Airlines breaking his guitar. After a year-long fight to replace a broken Taylor Guitar, the Canadian musician uploaded a music video called United Breaks Guitars about the struggle.
We compared the two videos one week after they went live. United Breaks Guitars had generated 2.8 million views the week after it was uploaded, which doubles Joey Quits to date. Despite falling short of overtaking United Breaks Guitars, Joey Quits has the potential to go much bigger. Views have spiked in the past two days and comments are surging, both signs pointing to many more views to come.
