Madagascar 3: Most Wanted Release of the Week
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted releases nationwide, as it snatches up the number one spot on the Top 10 Online Film Chart with 7.4 million views. The family-friendly animated film follows the characters of Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman on their journey to get back home to their beloved Big Apple. Voiceovers are provided by a plethora of A-listers including Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, and Sacha Baron Cohen. After five weeks on the chart, the film has managed to pick up 850+ copies and derivatives.
To give this release some perspective, let’s compare it to Rio, another family-friendly animated film. At release, Rio had 3.9 million social video views, pulling in $39.2 million at the box office on opening weekend. With Madagascar 3 at 7.4 million views, over twice as much as Rio, it seems well positioned to surpass Rio in box office earnings.
Prometheus also hits theaters this week, generating 5.3 millions views, and growing 126% over last week. Directed by Ridley Scott, Prometheus features Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, and Michael Fassbender as crusaders fighting to save the future of the human race. The sci-fi action flick has been holding down a spot on the charts for eight solid weeks now with 1,500 copies and derivatives.
