Brave Already a Hit in Social Video
Brave opens in theaters nationwide this weekend, coming in at number five on the Online Film Trailer Chart with 1.8 million views. The 3D computer-animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios features the voices Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, and Emma Thompson. It has garnered 1000 placements, of which 800 are accounted for by copies and derivatives. However, over 70% of the views are being generated from original trailers, TV spots, clips, and other content.
To give the release some context, let's pit it against Up, Pixar's Oscar-winning hit from 2009. At the same point in the release cycle, Up had generated 6.5 million cumulative views, a small number in comparison to Brave's cumulative total of 27 million views. Up went on to rake in $68 million opening weekend at the box office.
Oliver Stone’s Savages makes its chart debut this week, scooting in at number nine. The edgy thriller tells the story of marijuana growers in a face-off against a Mexican drug cartel. With two weeks till release, Savages garnered 1 million views across a total of 120 placements, 100 of which are copies and derivatives. The surge in viewership over the past couple weeks indicates Universal Studios may be stepping up promotion as the film approaches release.
