Ice Age Freezes Out Film Trailer Competition
Ice Age: Continental Drift hits theaters nation-wide this week, coming in at number one with 5 million views on the Online Film Trailer Chart. The CG animated film tells the tale of Manny, Diego, and Sid as they embark upon another adventure when their continent is set adrift. Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and John Leguizamo lend their voices to the project. Out of a total of 830 placements, 700+ are copies and derivatives.
To give some context, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, another 2012 animated film, had generated nearly 7.5 million social video views at release week. It went onto gross $60 million on opening weekend.
Two weeks from release, The Watch makes its chart debut this week, slipping into tenth place with 200,000 views. The story is based on a group of suburban dads who find themselves defending the Earth from an alien invasion. Directed by Akiva Schaffer, the science-fiction comedy stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade. The campaign has managed to generate almost 150 placements from at least eight original spots. Nearly all of the viewership for the film is coming from the copies and derivatives, a sign of high virality.
