During the holiday season, we spend time with friends and family far from home, around the country and across the globe. But to see our loved ones, we have to cram gifts into suitcases, brave security lines at airports, and overcome jet lag. To provide you with some entertainment during your travels this holiday season, we dug into our Viral Reach Database and found the Top 10 Travel Ads we chose to watch most in 2012.
The campaigns are ranked by our True Reach methodology, and include the original clips launched by the brands themselves as well as the copies, mashups, spoofs, and video responses published by audiences across the web.
Topping the list is Air New Zealand's Hobbit-themed campaign, An Unexpected Briefing. The campaign ties in with the premiere of The Hobbit, which was shot in New Zealand. The idea was a hit, powering through 11.1 million views in 2012. Air New Zealand also claims eighth place on the list with #airnz, which had 1.2 million views.
Dutch airline KLM's Be My Guest grabs second place. Starring a host of Dutch celebrities, including footballer Ruud Bullit, supermodel Yfke Sturm, and DJ Armin van Burren, the campaign included a series of prizes for consumers and generated over 10.4 million views this year.
Also making the Top 10 are campaigns by Disney, GPS brand TomTom, British Airways, travel site Expedia, Visit Stockholm, and Canadian Tourism.
