The Most-Watched Super Bowl Brands Ever
In anticipation of Super Bowl XLVII this Sunday, we've looked at the most successful Super Bowl brands ever in online video. The brands on this list innovate year over year, perfecting their online video game strategy. The top two brands, Volkswagen and Doritos, have online video viewership that more than doubles the next two brands on the list, which shows just how intense the competition for viewership is for Super Bowl brands.
To create the list, we've looked at every Super Bowl campaign launched over the past few years and aggregated their performance by brand. Each campaign is measured by True Reach, which combines the performance of the original videos launched by the brands as well the views generated by videos uploaded by audiences across the web. These are the brands audiences choose to watch most for the Super Bowl.
In 2010, VW released The Force, a heartwarming spot starring a boy dressed in a Darth Vader costume. Last year, it continued to use the Star Wars theme in The Dog Strikes Back. The German automaker's Game Day campaigns have now been watched over 127.9 million times.
Doritos has successfully held its Crash The Super Bowl contest since 2009, generating more than 122.9 million views in the last three years. 2010's contest winner, House Rules, has been the brand's best-performing clip.
The remaining spots are dominated by auto brands -- Chevrolet, Chrysler, Honda, Acura, and Audi all make the top 10. M&M'S, E*TRADE, and Bridgetsone also make the list.
